Early Learning The Witches of Ely are very thankful for the positive attitude of the visitors to The Witches Tree Lessen 1: The word Witch means Wise Woman. A male is a Wizard, a Druid or simply a Pagan. Men are NOT WiTCHes..! In days of olde, the tribe & the village was the family. The family would naturally have Elders who were Wiser than the youngers. The top Wise people were Alchemists who could cure and create by bringing together the elements of earth, air, fire, water, sun, moon, stars, spirits, herb, animal, symbol, Gods, Goddeses, Music & Magick... They could tell a good story too... These were mainly aged men and women, with a broad experience of the nuts & bolts of life being present, or on hand at the tribal births & blessings, deaths & marriages. WHERE DiD iT GO WRONG..? The most turbulent forces has been that of Religion, inparticular the male dominated religion of Christianity which has cut deep into the human conscience. It leaves scars & blood stained memories of a fevered religious fervour, that persecutes non conformists and Exalts the Dominance of MAN over WOMAN, continuing to this day... GENiSiS 3:16 Unto the Woman, God said, "I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee" Exodus xxii, v 18: "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live." Leviticus XX, v 27 A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a Wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them. Deuteronomy XVIII, v 10 & 11 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with famililiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. The Bible then again goes on to say how DEATH will come to the prophets of different Gods I Samuel XXVIII, v 3 Now Samuel was dead, and all Isreal had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the Wizards, out of the land TIMOTHY II, v 11 - 15 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. Suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Not withstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety. We will however, cover attraction and love Spells for those searching for their soul mate. The Witches of Ely do not believe in the use of Ouija Boards to contact spirits. You would be better advised to see a reputable Tarot Reader, a Natural Medium or even a State paid councilor or psychiatrist. Remember though, the best advice comes from a true friend. To run a coven in the modern age is not about dancing naked around trees... It's about Women, working together for a brighter future for our children, and ourselves. It is about equality for women within relationships and in the wider world. It is about mutual counseling and caring for each others health and spirit. It is about using our Goddess given right and power, to influence our World, and our Lives... It is also about NOT abusing our power as Women, or being pious in our attitude. We need to appreciate our Mother Nature, Our Goddesses and Gods, and our universe . We must also view ourselves humbly, but confidently within the broad perspective. We have much to learn.
